Description
- Quality prenatal care includes a thorough history of maternal
medical risk factors, family history, and psychosocial issues.
- There is limited evidence as to the optimum number of prenatal
visits.
- The average number of prenatal visits in developed countries
is 7–11.
- Frequency of visits should be based on the initial risk
assessment.
- Usual schedule of United States prenatal visits:
- Monthly beginning with preconception care until 30–32
weeks
- Every 2 weeks until 36 weeks gestation, then weekly until
delivery.
